Description
Guadalupe Peak is the highest point in Texas at 8,749 feet. It is located in Guadalupe Mountains National Park and offers some of the best views around, especially the unique view of the top of nearby El Capitan. The trail is well established and has a roundtrip of 8.4 miles with approximately 3,000 feet in elevation gain. The mountains are an old limestone fossil reef that rises from the nearby Chihauhuan Desert. Guadalupe Peak is acknowledged as an excellent winter climb due to its year round warm weather, although there may be some snow in winter.
