Jumbo Mountain is located in the Boulder River Wilderness, 4 miles south of the logging town of Darrington. It is a local landmark along with its dominating neighbor to the west, Whitehorse Mountain. Jumbo Mountain's summit crest has three summits, with the Middle Peak being highest, and the North and South Peaks each about 80 feet lower. In the late 1800's miners prospecting on the mountain named it for its resemblance to an elephant. The rock is shale and sandstone. Refer to Fred Beckey's Cascade Alpine Guide, Volume 2, for complete information on climbing routes on Jumbo Mountain.
