Katafidhi is the highest peak of Athamanika mountains(Tzoumerka). Tzoumerka, Kakarditsa, and Lakmos(peristeri),from south to north, form the southern Pindus massif which lies among the prefectures of Ioannina Trikala and Arta It is important to note that Athamanika mountains(Tzoumerka) is the massif south of Kakarditsa only,does Not Include Kakarditsa, though in some maps you may see that Kakarditsa along with Athamanika mountains form Athamanika mountains. In fact southern pindus is a large massif consisting of three other smaller massifsTzoumerka(Athamanika mountains)(2393m), Kakarditsa(2429m), and Lakmos(2295m). To climb to Katafidhi you could start out from the Village Kataraktis, whose name means waterfall, because there is a waterfall nearby during the spring.WIthin 4-5 hours you should reach the top. the path is easy and clear. Be careful of dogs because during the summer cattle ocuppy the fields.
