Carrauntoohil Climbing Notes
Paul Carlile from IRELAND writes:
Please do not underestimate our little Irish mountains. The combination of cold and wet and wind and erratic unpredictable weather has been the death of many an 'experienced' climber. Bog holes swallow people, the wet and cold and poor visibility can kill. Walking poles are essential kit in order to avoid bog holes and floating ground. Purple sedge grass can make some areas very difficult to walk since it covers holes etc.
Having said that, the reeks are great!
the last few winters have provided alpine conditions with deep snow. This is a lot safer that the usual frozen peat and blinding sleet.
Take care.
