There are three (3) interesting separate places to visit at Mt. Makiling, Los Baños, Laguna (from the lowest to the highest peak)
1. The FLAT ROCKS - these are cascading rocks flattened by the water flowing from the springs from the mountain peaks. Falls abound at various heights. The water is so clear, cold and refreshing. Water level may rise depending on the weather, which becomes risky for visitors.
2. The MUD SPRING - the trek may take about more than two (2) hours to this hidden inactive volcano. The air is very sulphurous but no suffocating. This is a protected and fenced area of boiling mud and water. Water at boiling point flows into a small stream which visitor can experience.
3. The PEAK 2 - the second highest peak which is about 25 kilometers trek to and fro, that's about about hours climb up and a bit lesser going down. The reward of this climb is to see the vicinity of two provinces - Laguna and Batangas.
Treks to these places can be more fun if done through the forests which are more shorter than the gruelling footpaths from the Forestry Division of the University of the Philippines Campus. The entrance to the forest is shorter from the Boy Scout Camp which is way beyond the UP campus.
Climbs to any of the above locations is monitored by the Forestry Division of the UP Campus thus registration is required. Guides are recommended and are available, if passing through the Boy Scout Camp.
Mt. Makiling is a legendary and mythical mountain. Extreme precaution and strong faith is required when visiting the place.
