John B from United States
Climbed May 31, 2020.
We drove up the connector road (the road that would take you to the Hemlock Cabin) until the road got too muddy. From the truck to the summit, it was 4.5 miles.
No snow on the ground until past the cabin.
Used crampons and an axe for a couple short sections at the top, which I would consider mandatory.
The mosquitoes were getting lively around noon, especially as we descended to the lodgepole flats.
Diamond Lake lodge is open for takeout only!

August 25, 2019
Raina from United States
Climbed 8/20/2019.
Mosquitos still very present below treeline. 5mph wind at summit and only needed a light jacket and shorts there at 10:30 am, although started with pants on and layers. Very little snow still left in 2 or 3 places, but not on trail.
Loose volcanic rock for last 1.5 miles. Very cool rock wall and “window”, 360 degree summit views, with fantastic lookout over Mt. Thielsen and Diamond Lake.
Someone has tried to remove USGS survey marker, but it’s still there; no summit register box present, or shelter of any kind at the top.
I’ve taken several beginners here, including one who had not told me in advance that she was scared of heights (I had to coax her along the last half mile). It can be very windy above treeline, so be prepared.
