Mount Kilimanjaro Climbing Notes
Jose A. Soto MD from UNITED STATES writes:
After ascent to the Kilimanjaro Crater on June 27th 2018 and Uhuru Peak on June 28th 2018 it is my duty to report a significant change on the weather conditions of the mountain as traditionally narrated by experience climbers. The crater was covered on snow. The winds were consistently light ranging from 5 to Km per hour. Calm conditions. The snow on the ascent from the crater camp to the Uhuru peak crystallized towards mid morning making the ascent risky. The use of crampons, helmet, ice peak and glacier precautions are to be followed if this path is taken, at least until the weather change to a drier status. Minor falls without significant injuries during the descent for climbers to be reported due to the presence of ice and permafrost upon moving from the top of Kilimanjaro to Barafut Camp (base camp). The top of the mountain is white again and the glaciers are well preserved to the naked eye.
