At least 2018 and 2019 (and beyond) the forest service road is gated at the highway. So without a key (from Weyerhaeuser, pay a fee and get a permit for one year) you'll have to walk or bike the road for approximately 5.5 miles to the "trailhead". You need to know where to turn, so study your maps.

Most of the trails I've hiked have signs (clues), like where the trail starts. Not this one so really focus on following the directions. Started below the marine cover, hiked to a clear sky above, no switchbacks here, just a minimal goat path going up the mt. Going down was almost harder, OK I'm a little on the senior side(58), probably the best thing was hardly no other people, total of 4, awesome views. 4x4 recommended
