Mount Stephenson Climbing Notes
Donald Stewart from UNITED KINGDOM writes:
On February 9th 1986 , geologist Dr Phill Nell and myself British Antarctic Survey field guide Donald Stewart climbed Mount Stevenson from the Sullivan Glacier in perfect weather arriving at the summit at 20.50 hours GMT The height gain was 2360m. An ascent from the Toynbee Glacier side would be considerably greater. Hopefully posting this will stop somebody going to great expense to bag the peak thinking they would be getting a first ascent. That said There are unconfirmed rumours that there are higher mountains on Alexander Island , a bit like Mount Hope / Mount Jackson. Summit pics to follow in due course. I need to find and scan them !
