Climbed Skiddaw on Saturday 9th Jan 2015 and intended to do the BGR leg 1 to Gt Calva and Blencathra but whiteout and blizzard at the top sent me back down the way I had come. From +10 to -5 degrees in the space of 100m elevation is unusual in the UK. Take some layers, glasses and a GPS and you can navigate through the blizzard and mist that then settles in the valley.

Did Skiddaw Today. In the extreme Winter conditions.
Advise novice walkers not to attempt.
A lot of snow drift, recommend snow goggles.
The route is iced over therefore use of spike pleats. Crampons not advised as terrain may damage them as a fellow walker broke theirs.
Wind chill factor is severe
Wind speed at Skiddaw peak is extreme can catch you off guard.
Visibility almost whiteout along Skiddaw peak.
Happy walking.
