It’s private property and folks pull out shotguns when you turn around in their driveways. I would definitely recommend steering clear of South Mountain!

South Mountain is unfortunately inaccessible from it’s southern, eastern and northern sides. Private property, summer camps and gun ranges. I have heard on the west there is a trail to a western peak, if anyone knows more info I’d love to hear.

I am very interested in climbing/running up South Mountain but don't know what trail to start at. I have read about the mines, private land around the mountain and about how certain parts of the mountain is used as a shooting range but I'm still willing to find a trail and climb! Does anyone know of any trail on South Mountain, Edgewood where I can accomplish this? Thanks !

Yes there is BLM land 6 miles north of the mountain. South Mountain is completely surrounded by private land and there is no public access to South Mountain without private land owner permission.

Tough hike, no trails. Hard to find access without going through private land. There is a BLM area on the north side on 344 you can use as a starting point. Park close to the road as the area is a popular shooting range which can have obvious dangers if someone doesn't know you are down range. Much prettier and less dangerous hikes out there, I would recommend avoiding this one.
