The walk up to St Sunday Crag is a good one. We started from Patterdale and this tends to be the most popular of starting points. There is parking available and most of the car parks charge for you to stay here.
A good option is to bag a few Wainwrights on the same day and you can do this by heading up to Arnison Crags first, then onto Birks, and finally make your way up to St Sunday Crag. There are steep sections, but it is mostly good underfoot.
You can continue onto the likes of Fairfield, or continue around onto the Helvellyn range of fells too if you have more time for a longer and more challenging walk.
A great hike to the top though and plenty of open views to marvel over from the top, mostly looking back towards Ullswater to the northeast of the fell.
